‘iPhone Moment’ for Powered Speakers |
Six years ago QSC, one of the world largest professional amp manufacturers, embarked on a mission to become a leading full line pro audio manufacturer.
K-Series is a key part of that transformation and it puts QSC head-to-head with the biggest names in the industry in the white heat of the powered portable speaker sector. Leaving nothing to chance K-Series is no ordinary contender.
Described as an ‘iPhone Moment’ QSC believes it has taken a quantum leap with a product range it describes as the most powerful, technically advanced, sonically superior portable powered speakers ever!
The complete range K8 (8” 2-way), K10, K12 and KSUB (double 12” subwoofer) are all powered by the same 1000w Class D amplifier module. The concept of the fullrange models is a choice between size, weight and bass extension not between duty cycle capabilities.
Comprehensive facilities start with combo XLR and 1/4" TRS inputs which accept both mic and line levels plus RCA ins (except KSub) which connect to iPod, CD players and line-level mixers. Up to three audio sources can be mixed internally and summed to a balanced output for ‘daisy-chaining’ of multiple units. Separate direct outputs provide additional flexibility.
On-board switches provide preset EQ settings. HF (fullrange models) can be set to ‘Vocal Boost’ for additional presence in the mids or ‘Flat.’ LF can be set to ‘Normal,’ ‘DEEP™’ for additional bass extension, or ‘Ext Sub’ (fullrange models) for hooking to an external subwoofer. A rear panel LED switch can be set to ‘Power’ illuminating the front-mounted LED, or ‘Off,’ or, ‘Limit’ which indicates to the system operator that the clip limiter circuit has been engaged during operation. Extensive use of DSP and bass algorithms enable the K-Series to bend the truth a little and deliver a perceived result belying its size and weight.
K8, K10 and K12 are housed in very professional looking yet rugged and extensively braced ABS enclosures which are equally at home with a live band, a DJ or in a corporate function. Ergonomic aluminum handles and a highly protective steel grille complete the package for ease of transport and long term durability.
The fullrange models feature a unique Tilt-Direct™ pole cup mounting system - a simple turn of the dial engages a 7.5 degree downward tilt of the speaker. Integrated M10 suspension points allow for suspended applications.
The KSub is a dual-12" bandpass design, constructed of premium birch and includes high-quality, low-noise casters. It features a threaded pole receptacle for a positive, wobble free connection to a threaded speaker pole (included).
K-Series also features some of QSC’s DSP innovations include DMT™ (Directivity Matched Transition) which delivers matched LF and HF coverage across the listening area eliminating unnatural ‘dead’ or ‘hot’ frequency zones and DEEP™ which limits speaker driver excursion by actively managing low-frequency transients without degrading underlying signal or adjacent frequencies.
